Chrome Downloads (Default)
Direct MP4 video URLs exposed by Facebook post players are saved straight through Chrome's native download manager. Zero additional setup or local services required.
Optional Local Backend
For segmented streams (HLS, DASH, or split audio/video tracks), an optional local companion service with FFmpeg can stitch chunks into standard MP4 files. This backend is strictly optional and never needed for standard photo albums.
Current platform limits
- Unsupported formats: Stories, Reels, live broadcasts, and browser-only encrypted blob feeds cannot be downloaded.
- Permitted access: Only operates on media you have permission to view within your active Facebook session. Does not bypass private group or friendship restrictions.
- Need a full account backup? Facebook Downloader is built for selective media archiving while browsing. If you need a complete archive of your entire account, use Meta's official Download Your Information tool.
